Join us Monday, May 19 at 10 AM at Court Square to welcome the hikers as they arrive in patriotic style—escorted by the ROTC Color Guard in a tribute to our past and the spirit of discovery that still moves us today.
Hosted by the Knox Historical Museum, this celebration features a powerful lineup of local voices and historians:
🗣️ Knox County Judge Mike Mitchell and Knox County Clerk Mike Corey will offer welcoming remarks and reflect on Boone Trace’s lasting legacy in Knox County.
🧭 Keith Bowling, park manager at the Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site, will speak on the pioneering work of Dr. Thomas Walker, the early explorer who laid the groundwork for Boone’s famous route.
⚔️ Ron Bowling will share the lesser-known Civil War history of Barbourville, revealing its strategic importance in a time of national conflict.
🌲 Steve Valentine will highlight the mission of the Friends of Boone Trace, a group dedicated to preserving this iconic trail and connecting it with future generations.
